Henna pictures with the Henna paste on, after the paste is wiped off, the the following day. Henna stains should NEVER be black! Henna is normally orange when first wiped off. Then should be a brown/reddish color. Everyone's stains may vary. Stain color will also vary on the area of the body it is on! Please email us if you have any questions! nmhennacompany@aol.com
What is Henna?
Henna or mehndi is a plant that has a natural staining dye in it.
To make a henna tattoo you need to crush the leaves into a powder,
add lemon juice, sugar, and an essential oil.
Your henna paste when first applied to the skin is wet. The henna paste
takes about twenty minutes to dry. Once your henna is dry you
leave it on for at least six to eight hours. The longer you leave the
paste on your skin the darker it will be and the longer your henna
tattoo will last. You will then need to wipe the paste off with your
hand. It is best to avoid water within the first 24 hours. Your stain
will be orange at first. Henna takes about 72 hours to get its darkest.
How long will my Henna tattoo last?
Your henna stain will last approximately 1-3 weeks. Different parts of
the body will get darker stains such as the palms of the hand and soles
of the feet.
Henna does not stain well over scars or stretch marks. Also everyone is different so every henna stain may be different. There are many variables in henna staining your skin including heat, body temperature, stress and more.
How to take care of your Henna tattoo?
You don't need to do anything
to take care of your henna tattoo. If
you go swimming in chlorinated water, the stain will fade faster. Put
oil or lotion to help protect that top layer of the skin. Using salt
scrubs will exfoliate your skin also causing your henna tattoo to fade
faster.
Do you use natural Henna?
Yes. My henna paste is from a crushed henna plant. I mix it
myself using, the henna powder, lemon juice, sugar, and an essential oil
either Eucalyptus or Lavender oil.
Is Henna a hair dye?
Yes. Henna can be used to dye your hair. Henna when used as a
hair dye is permanent. You add 8oz of lemon juice to a 100 gram box of
henna. You add it to your hair, leave it for three hours, then wash it
out. You do not add an essential oil when dying your hair.
What brand of Henna do you use?
I only use Jamila henna. I have been using the same brand of henna for 7 years.
Can Henna make you sick?
I only apply henna tattoos to children who are older than five. Young children's skin is much thinner than adults. Also, if children or adults have
a type of anemia called G6 deficiency I will not apply henna to them.
Can Black Henna make you sick?
There is no such thing as safe black henna. Henna should only be
a natural reddish/brown color. Black henna can contain a chemical
called Para-Phenylenediamine which can scar your skin or make you very
sick. It is also illegal for people to use on the skin. Signs of black
henna are: staining your skin a black color very fast, itching and
burning. Please do not use black henna or let anyone use it on you.
Henna kits and premade Henna
I personally mix all the paste I use and sell. I also put all my henna
kits together myself. So if you have any questions I will be happy to
answer them!
Where can I get a henna kit or henna accessories if I do not want to order online?
You can pick up one of The New Mexico Henna Company henna kits at Earth Treasures Us, inside the Coronado Mall in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They also sell jamila henna. We always recommend mixing your own henna paste! We don't recommend buying any pre made paste.

Going Green
We don't sell henna cones, because we think they are wasteful. Once you wrap a cone and fill it with henna you throw them in the trash. With the henna applicator bottle you just wash and reuse them!
Henna applicator bottles- we no longer sell the white caps that goes on top of them. Just another way to use less plastic and they don't really serve much of a purpose.
